Franklin Graham Wants to ‘Drain the Swamp’ That’s Corrupted Washington

Washington is so corrupt, it’s a shame – Franklin Graham

Evangelical preacher the Rev. Franklin Graham said that he agrees with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ recent comments that Washington D.C. is “broken” in some ways, with America’s institutions in great danger.

“The Bible says, ‘If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?’ (Psalm 11:3) Washington is so corrupt, it’s a shame. I even saw an ad for a t-shirt that says ‘Drain the swamp in Washington, D.C.’ Boy, isn’t that the truth!” Graham wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday.

“The responsibility for future generations is in our hands. How you exercise your privilege to vote and who you vote for is going to determine the type of life your children and grandchildren have. Every Christian needs to pray and to vote. The America I grew up in is quickly disappearing, but with God’s help and your prayers, things can change,” he added.

Graham did not explain where he saw the T-Shirt, but the “drain the swamp” slogan has been used recently a number of times by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has vowed to restore “honesty, accountability and change to Washington.”

Graham also linked to an article by USA Today where Thomas blasts the inability of America to hold civil debates on big issues.

“This city is broken in some ways,” Thomas said about the U.S. capital. “At some point, we are going to have to recognize that we are destroying our institutions.”

Thomas did not talk about who is likely to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who passed away in February, but remembered their good friendship.

“He did the small, he did the big, he cared about it all,” he said about Scalia’s engagement with different issues. “That teaches you a lesson — that it all matters.”

Graham has said that the ongoing election season has produced an “ugly campaign,” but shared his hopes that whoever becomes the next U.S. president, he or she will follow God.

“I am praying for God to give us a president, a vice president, and other leaders in this country who will acknowledge Him and look to Him for direction. But no matter who is in the Oval Office, God is still on His throne. My hope is in Him. He is what our country needs. ‘And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you’ (Psalm 39:7),” Graham wrote in another post earlier in October.

He has also argued that the most important issue for Christians to think about when heading to the voting booth is who Trump or his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton might nominate to the Supreme Court.

“Yes, both candidates need God’s help. Yes, this is a critical election and a lot is at stake — namely the Supreme Court. There’s no question that Christians need to pray, to be involved, and to vote even in a tough election,” the president of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said.
